You might have never heard of Isla Holbox, and don’t worry, neither had I until actually arriving in Mexico. If it wasn’t already part of your itinerary, I would seriously consider adding it on. A little island located to the north of Yucatan Peninsula. A small island with so much to offer, a place no cars and only golf buggies drive around. Where do I get the ferry to Isla Holbox, Mexico?
There is only one place to get the ferry to Holbox, a town called Chiquila. Once you get to Chiquila, there are 2 options to take the ferry across as only 2 companies run the ferries.
Option 1: Holbox Express, fast ferry. The journey takes 30 minutes
Price: $220 MXN Adult
$180 MXN Children
Departures: The Holbox express starts at 6:30am and there is one every hour until 9:30pm at night from Chiquila to Holbox. And 6:30am until 8:30pm from Holbox to Chiquila.
The town of Chiquila is very small, and you will see the ticket office right at the ferry port. When I got off the bus a lady that worked for holbox ferry was there to show everyone where the ticket office is. If you take the ADO bus, walk out of the car park and turn right, you will see the red building 100 feet ahead on the right hand side.
Option 2: 9 Hermanos, the journey takes 30 minutes

How do I get to Chiquila?
The easiest and cheapest way to get to Chiquila is via bus. You can take the ADO bus straight to Chiquila from pretty much anywhere; Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Merida, Valladolid, Tulum etc.
The ADO bus is roughly between $250-$350 MXN pesos, depending on your departure location.
If you’d like to go even cheaper, you can get shuttle buses, that are smaller vans.You can either go to the Colectivo stations and jump in. Or you can book in advance a shuttle bus that will pick you up. To pre book you can use a website called Bookaway, which will have multiple companies you can compare and book.
